SCRANTON--Former Bloomsburg University baseball player Larry Piccini was recently named the head baseball coach at Lakeland High School near Scranton. He replaces long-time coach Joe Valdala.
Piccini, 28, who spent the last five years as an assistant at the school, will take over a program that won a District 2 Class AA championship in 2009 and reached the semifinals in 2010.
"I just want to keep the program headed in the right direction," Piccini, who is a graduate of Valley View and was a four-year starter at Bloomsburg University, said. "A program that Joe built, I want to maintain it as a competitive program."
A math teacher at the high school, Piccini is also an assistant football coach for Lakeland.
