CLEVELAND, OH—Bloomsburg University wrestlers
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Valley) and
Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ, Middlesex) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 2010 FILA Junior National Freestyle Tournament held April 24-25 at Cleveland State University.
Busler, competing at 74 kg, went 4-2, making it to the semifinals before falling to Chris Spangler of the Cyclone Wrestling Club, 2-0, 5-2. He then went on to defeat Bobby Barhisel (Navy Mat Club) in the consolation semifinals 6-6, 1-1, 6-0 then lost to David Taylor (Nittany Lion Wrestling Club) for third place by tech fall.
Dessino, who competed at 79 kg, went 6-2 during the weekend. After losing his opening match to Caleb Kolb (Nebraska Extreme) by tech fall, Dessino reeled off five straight wins before falling to Karl DeCiantis (Pittsburgh Wrestling Club) in the consolation semifinals by tech fall. He then won his fifth place match over Jimmy Sheptock (Terrapin Wrestling Club) by injury default. He also defeated Stephen Doty (Cavalier Wrestling Club) and James Flemming (Clarion Wrestling Club).
The FILA Junior National Tournament is the national event for males ages 17-20 years old and brings the best age group wrestlers from around the United States to this tournament. The top-six place winners qualify for the FILA Junior World Team Trials May 24-29 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO with the winner earning the right to represent Team USA in the FILA Junior World Championships later this summer.
