BLOOMSBURG—Four members of the Bloomsburg University softball team have been named to the Louisville Slugger/National Faspitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-Region team for 2010.
Named first team All-Atlantic Region were pitcher
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic), catcher
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore)and second baseman
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore). Earning second team All-Region honors was third baseman
Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia).
Fisher, a junior, has pitched the Huskies to this weekend’s NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional tournament by going 32-5 with a 1.05 ERA. Fisher, who is 9-2 so far in the post-season, has struck out 276 batters, second most all-time in school history for a single season in just 247 innings of work. Her 32 wins are also tied for the second most in a single season, while her 12 shutouts are tied for seventh best in a single season.
She was previously named the PSAC Central Division Pitcher of the Year and first team All-PSAC Central Division and the Daktronics Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year as well as first team All-Region by Daktronics. During the season she earned PSAC Central Division Pitcher of the Week five times.
Lazorka is second in batting .393 with 30 RBI on the season. Lazorka has been tough to strikeout all season with just two whiffs in 163 at-bats this season. Lazorka was named first team All-PSAC Central Division and first team All-Atlantic Region by Daktronics.
Mauro is third on the Huskies in hitting at .385 with a homer and a team-high 42 RBI. Mauro helped propel the Huskies to the Super Regional by going 3-4 and driving in two runs in the Huskies tournament clinching 6-0 win over IUP on Sunday. Mauro was named first team All-PSAC and second team All-Atlantic Region by Daktronics.
Shiko is batting .410 on the season with four homers and 41 RBI. In the post-season (PSAC and NCAA) Shiko has stepped her game up to another level is batting .525 with a homer and six RBI. She was named the PSAC Central Division Player of the Year as well as first team All-PSAC Central. She earned first team All-Atlantic Region honors by Daktronics.
All the first team All-Region selections will now move on to the national All-American ballot. The All-American team will be announced next week at the NCAA Division II national championships in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
The Huskies, 47-6, will host California, PA in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional Friday at 1 p.m.
