BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University women’s track & field team travels to Farrell Stadium on the campus of West Chester University to compete in the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.
The Huskies will be led on the track by a slew of distance runners, including
Angela Borealo (Easton, Easton),
Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) and
Kaitlyn Meck (Dillsburg, Northern ). Borealo (800 meters, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000) and Filemyr (1,500, 3,000, 5,000 and 3,000 steeplechase) each qualified for four events while Meck (1,500, 3,000 and 5,000) qualified for three.
Borealo’s season-best time of 4:46.68 in the 1,500 ranks her eighth in the PSAC while her 17:55.80 in the 5,000 is the 13th best in the conference. She finished second in the 1,500 at West Chester’s Golden Ram Invitational, running a time of 4:48.99 and added a second place finish in the 800 at Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational with a time of 2:24.27.
Filemyr, just a freshman, took first place in the 1,500 at East Stroudsburg’s All-American Invitational, running a season-best 4:59.69. She also placed fourth in the 3,000 at the Golden Ram Invitational, finishing with a time of 10:49.75. Meck, a sophomore, had a first place finish of her own, finishing the 3,000 in 10:23.48 at the All-American Invitational. That time is the 11th best in the PSAC this season. Her time of 11:37.64 in the 3,000 steeplechase is the conference’s seventh best this year while her 17:59.45 in the 5,000 is 15th.
The Huskies also have three sprinters who have qualified in
Valerie Homer (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South),
Kaila Hassler (Schnecksville, Parkland) and
Brielle Stefanelli (Montvale, NJ, Pascack Hills). Homer and Hassler, both 100 meter runners, have times of 12.75 and 12.89, respectively, this season. Homer’s time, ran at the All-American Invitational, ranks her 10th in the PSAC. Stefanelli qualifies in the 400 where she finished in a season-best 1:00.54 at the Maroon and Gold Invitational.
Pole vaulters
Jacquie Glaser (Easton, Easton) and
Ashley Mancil (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) and long jumper
Alilia Anderson (Glenside, Cheltenham) have also qualified. Glaser and Mancik have leapt equal heights of 10’0”, good enough to rank 10th in the conference. Anderson has a season-best jump of 16’10”, which she posted at the Maroon and Gold Inviational.
The championships start on Thursday morning with the men’s decathlon at 11:00 a.m. and continue through Saturday afternoon.
