HUSKY OPEN RESULTS

BLOOMSBURG – Valerie Homer (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South), Kaila Hassler (Schnecksville, Parkland) and Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) each posted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times as Bloomsburg University hosted its inaugural Husky Open at Redman Stadium this weekend.

Homer and Hassler finished 1-2 in the 100m, finishing with times of 12.76 and 12.89, respectively. Hassler also took home first in the 200m, crossing the line with a time of 27.11. Filemyr qualified in the 5000m, finishing in 18:49.04.

Brielle Stefanelli (Montvale, NJ, Pascack Hills) and Victoria Davis (Schuylkill, Schuylkill Haven) were the Huskies other first place finishers on Saturday, as Stefanelli ran the 400m in 62.08 and Davis ran the 800m in 2:28.48. The women’s 4x400 relay team of Hassler, Erin Hanosek (Macungie, Emmaus), Davis and Stefanelli also placed first, finishing in 4:15.94.

“The inaugural Husky Open was a success on many fronts,” said women’s track coach Bernie Empie. “It brought track and field back to center stage at Bloomsburg University, produced many outstanding performances (season PR's and lifetime bests), and set the stage for many successful future track and field meets to be hosted at Redman Stadium.” The Husky Open marks the first outdoor track and field meet at Bloomsburg since 1990.

The Huskies return to the track next weekend at the All-American Invitational at East Stroudsburg University.
